Victor Massiah was born in 1959. An Italian citizen, he was awarded a degree in Economics and Commerce from the “La Sapienza” University of Rome with a thesis on international economics. He started his career when he joined Andersen Consulting in 1982. He became a consultant for the McKinsey & Co Italian office in 1989. He joined Banco Ambrosiano Veneto in January 1997 where he had an active role in the bank expansion and in February 1998 was appointed head of the entire commercial department and later Deputy General Manager. The merger between Banco Ambrosiano Veneto and Cariplo took place that year and Massiah helped create a new bank (BancaIntesa) becoming head of the Market Area in May 1999. He was appointed Deputy General Manager in January 2001. In August 2001 he was appointed Managing Director of IntesaBci e.Lab, with the task of raising the standards of the group to levels of excellence in financial services using new technologies. Massiah joined the Banca Lombarda e Piemontese Group in October 2002 as was appointed General Manager at the beginning of 2003. UBI Banca was formed on 1 April 2007 as a result of the merger between BPU – Banche Popolari Unite – and Banca Lombarda & Piemontese and he became General Manager, a post he held until 30 November 2008. He has been Chief Executive Officer of UBI Banca since 1 December 2008.
