Antonio Patuelli, unanimously elected Chairman of ABI (Italian Banking Association), is a farming entrepreneur, journalist and lead writer for the Resto del Carlino, Nazione and Il Giorno newspapers, as well as Chairman of the private and independent banking group – Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna SpA. He was born in Bologna on 10 February 1951 and holds a Law Degree from the University of Florence. The President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, awarded him the title of ‘Cavaliere del lavoro’. Up to recently he was Deputy Chairman of Acri. He has been a member of the Board and the Executive Committee of ABI since 1998, as well as Deputy Chairman and Acting Deputy Chairman. Since 2001 he was a member of the Board and the Managing Committee of the Interbank Fund for Deposit Protection. He was an MP for almost 6 years during two brief terms and his political life was interrupted at the end of Prime Minister Ciampi’s Government on which he served as Undersecretary for Defence. He was a member of the Treasury, Budget and Agricultural Committees. He was also a member of the Bicameral Commission for Institutional Reforms and chaired the Constitutional Guarantees Committee.
